Monte Cristi was the Spanish Crown’s first natural port in America in the Colonial days, and for hundreds of years, it has been the virtual graveyard for shipwrecks that rest from past centuries in the fantastic coral reefs that have hidden these archaeological treasures from human eyes for centuries.

These extraordinary sites are authentic mausoleums waiting to be visited by new underwater explorers.

Monte Cristi is the major ancient shipwrecks graveyard in the whole Caribbean Sea.

More than 400 shipwrecks from the colonial days have been reported to be in this region, and less than 50 have been located and successfully identified and excavated.

To witness these underwater museums is an irresistible lifetime experience for true divers.

Montecristi Submarine National Park with an area of 180 km2 of marine area, is located on the northwest coast of the country in the Atlantic Ocean. We place emphasizes great underwater archaeological wealth as well as its great diversity in aquatic and underwater flora and fauna. All you need to do is to enter this beautiful protected area and you will discover the incredible natural habitat of species such as the hawksbill turtles, manatees and dolphins.

Afterwards, we will leave by boat with Galleon Divers from the bay of Montecristi. We will get to the barrier and most important coral ecosystem of the Dominican Republic. Together with our team, we could make scuba diving, snorkelling, underwater expeditions and archaeological expeditions.

There is a lot more to see while driving with the boat through the red mangroves natural habitat for birds and fish brood. Right in front of the mangroves, you will see El Moro mountain with a national park on its top and El Zapato del Moro behind it. It’s a Rock that looks like a shoe, and it is situated right in front of a beautiful hidden beach. From there, we can reach out to la Isla de la Cabra, which is a small pirate island in front of Monte Cristi Bay or we can drive over to Los cayos 7 hermanos natural habitat and brood sanctuary for birds.
