Sosúa is a small, yet popular town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The city of around 20,000 inhabitants is located in the province of Puerto Plata and is the ideal destination for a first-class beach holiday. But in Sosúa you will experience and discover much more besides boredom. Sosúa was founded in 1940 by emigrated European Jews who fled the Nazi regime. Over the decades, the resort has become an enchanting holiday paradise that has been magically attracting Europeans and North Americans looking for rest and relaxation since the 1990s. You will find it in Sosúa also thanks to the sunny and warm climate and turquoise bays, paradisiacal white sandy beaches and modern hotels easily.
Fantastic sandy beach with a high fun factor
The town consists of two districts “El Batey” and “Los Charamicos”. The larger El Batey in the west, the Jewish Quarter, is also the holiday centre, where you will find numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, nightclubs, shopping and many small hotels. The fishing village Los Charamicos is located in the east, where mainly Dominicans live in their typical houses. But the centre of Sosúa is clearly the very busy bay, which also separates the two places. The wonderfully beautiful and golden sandy beach offers thanks to the nearby coral reef the perfect conditions for swimming and snorkelling. Otherwise, you can enjoy in Sosúa on various water sports such as water skiing, windsurfing, sailing (mostly on catamarans), jet skis or deep-sea fishing. No less attractive is a romantic horse riding trip on the beach. At the beach bars, you can also enjoy the Caribbean cocktails and will quickly get acquainted with the openness and hospitality of the Dominicans.
As befits a popular resort in the Dominican Republic, you can also drive away from everyday life with shopping in the center or on the beach promenade, while at night in the bars and discos on the Calle Pedro Clisante party, fun and dancing on the program stand. For the physical well-being, there are plenty of international restaurants to choose from, all of which have imaginable culinary delicacies on the menu. Especially German cuisine is very strong, so you have to expect to be suddenly in front of the good old “Schnitzelbude”.
Sosúa is a modern tourist destination in the Dominican Republic that has everything to offer its guests, with the usual Caribbean beach feeling a top address for a fun and memorable Domrep vacation.
